The computer is the codemaker, and you are the codebreaker. The computer chooses a code consisting of a pattern of four colour tiles from the six available colours. Duplicates are allowed, so the computer could even choose all the tiles of the same colour.
Your job is to try to guess the pattern, in both order and colour, within twelve (or ten, or eight) turns. Each guess is made by dragging the colours onto each of the four empty tile boxes. You can overwrite any tile by dragging another colour over the previous selection. Once you have made your four selections, click the "Check" button. The computer will provide feedback by displaying your selection and showing from zero to four key pegs to the right of the guess. A red key peg is displayed for each tile from the guess which is correct in both colour and position. A white key peg indicates the existence of a correct tile color placed in the wrong position.
If there are duplicate colours in the guess, they cannot all be awarded a key peg unless they correspond to the same number of duplicate colours in the hidden code. For example, if the hidden code is yellow-yellow-black-black and you guess yellow-yellow-yellow-black, the codemaker will award two red key pegs for the two correct yellows, nothing for the third yellow as there is not a third yellow in the code, and a red key peg for the black. No indication is given of the fact that the code also includes a second black.
Once feedback is provided, another guess is made; guesses and feedback continue to alternate until either you guess correctly, or twelve (or ten, or eight) incorrect guesses are made.
Make your selection by dragging and dropping the colours onto the four selection boxes, then click on the "Check" button. Click "Clear" to remove all selections, or double-click an individual selection to clear.
